The mystery plant for August does not have “regular flowers” such as a buttercup or dogbane, but contains aggregates of blue flowers arranged in rather large heads. The corollas are two- lipped at the top and three- lobed at the bottom. The head of flowers begins to bloom in the center, and continues blooming to the outside.
The plants bloom from early July to late August, grow up to 4-5 feet tall, and have opposite, toothed and lance-shaped leaves. They grow in upland woods, fields and thickets.
